When speaking with a knee pain sufferer the very first thing they want to tell me is what’s their diagnosis or show me their MRI report.
At best a diagnosis is a doctor’s educated guess as to what might be going on with the knee. An X-ray, CT Scan or MRI will probably give the doctor a better picture and a more specific understanding whether something in the knee is broken or torn.
If the doctor finds out something in the knee is broken or torn, the best approach many times is surgery.
If the doctor determines that NOTHING is broken or torn in the knee then surgery almost always will make the knee situation worse and the patient more frustrated leaving them wonder, “Why does my knee still hurt?”
Little do they know, getting a diagnosis has very little to do with getting the knee out of pain. You see a diagnosis for all intents and purposes are for lawyers and insurance companies. It gives the doctor a legal right to apply a specific insurance code and protocol of treatment of “pain management” whether that be drugs, shots, physical therapy or surgery.
All of the fancy diagnoses in the world is NOT going to give you the underlying reason WHY your knee hurts. A diagnosis only points to a symptom NOT the underlying cause in regards to pain.
