Knee arthritis, aka osteoarthritis, involves degenerative changes affecting cartilage, bone, and surrounding tissues. Osteoarthritis is the most common form and often develops gradually.
Typical symptoms include stiffness after sitting, pain with walking or standing, swelling after activity, and difficulty with stairs. Symptoms may fluctuate depending on joint loading, inflammation, and movement patterns rather than structural changes alone.
Reduced knee motion can increase joint pressure and contribute to discomfort over time, particularly during activities involving slopes or uneven ground common in Western North Carolina.
